PRESIDENTIAL PARDON FOR MARIJUANA POSSESSION IN WASHINGTON DC

President Joe Biden announced today that he is pardoning individuals who were convicted of marijuana possession under federal law. He further announced that his administration would review whether marijuana should continue to be categorized as a Schedule I controlled substance.

It is estimated this will impact around 6,500 people who were convicted on federal charges of simple possession of marijuana. The New York Times further reported it also affects thousands of additional people who were convicted of possession in the District of Columbia.
